Safe Behavioral Practices for Reopening Your Hotel

The CDC has released an extensive list of guidelines for reopening a hotel during the COVID-19 pandemic. Much of what is contained in the guide involves proper cleaning. However, there are also some guidelines for safe behavior, and we would like to focus on these today.

  • Social distancing – Maintain six feet of distance between staff and guests. In the restaurant, be sure to keep your tables far enough apart to maintain a proper distance. Mark the ground so you can see immediately if something has been moved closer.
  • Face coverings – Everyone should be wearing a face covering when they are not in their own room. Obviously, when someone is eating or drinking, they will have to remove the covering. This makes distance even more important at the restaurant. Outdoor seating is best. You may also want to provide to-go meals for guests who feel more comfortable eating in their rooms.
  • Avoid touching your face – Remind employees and guests not to touch their eyes, ears, nose, or mouth since the virus can enter through these areas.
  • Temperature checks – No one should come to your hotel when sick, either guests or staff. Temperature checks can help you to catch someone who may not be in compliance.
